Birthe Müller var ordförande för IM (Individuell Människohjälp) 2013 – 2019 https://www.imsweden.org/ och hon har varit engagerad i organisationen i flera decennier. På 1980-talet höll hon bl.a. i organisationens kommunikation och fundraising och hon var redaktör för dess tidskrift. 
IM grundandes 1938 av den 27-åriga småbarnsmamman Britta Holmström som en reaktion mot tidens förtryck, förföljelser och brott mot mänskliga rättigheter. Tack vare hennes mod och handlingskraft kunde förföljda människor i Europa hjälpas fly och sätta sig i säkerhet. 
I Grekland startade IM på 1960-talet en vävskola i bergsbyn Vlasti där kvinnor fick möjlighet att utveckla sin traditionella kunskap och textila tradition. Trots politiska och ekonomiska utmaningar blev projektet en framgång, kvinnor vann självständighet och frihet och deras roll i samhället stärktes. Projektet är dokumenterat i den prisbelönta filmen “The Weavers” (2020), som visas 5 juli.
IM är idag en idéburen, obunden organisation som arbetar globalt i samarbete med lokala aktörer för en rättvis och medmänsklig värld.

Birthe Müller was chairman of IM (Individuell Människohjälp – ”Individual Aid to humans”) 2013 – 2019 https://en.imsweden.org/ and she has been committed to the organisation for many decades. In the 1980s Birthe Müller was in charge of IM communication, fund raising and she was also editor of the IM periodical.
IM was founded in 1938 by Britta Holmström – then a 27-year old mother with young children – as a reaction to the tyranny, the persecutions and the crimes against human rights. Thanks to her courage and decisiveness to act, many persecuted people in Europe got help to escape and to find a safe place.
In the 1960s, IM started a weaving school in the mountain village of Vlasti in Greece. Here the women in the village were offered an opportunity to develop their traditional knowledge of their textile tradition.  Despite political and economic challenges, the project became a success, the women obtained independence and freedom and their social role was strengthened. The award-winning documentary about this project, The Weavers (2020), will be shown 5 July.
Today IM is a non-profit, independent, organisation working globally in collaboration with local partners for a just and compassionate world.
