The documentary The Weavers (2020)
In 1963, IM, a Swedish charity, establishes in Vlasti, a mountainous village in Greece, a model weaving center. For 25 years this intercultural venture support the women of the village which was a charismatic place, severely affected by wars, poverty and emmigration.
The Weavers chronicle is a bittersweet presentation of themes and questions characterising the development of the Greek countryside. Just outside the village, snugly fitted into the fringes of the settlement is the “Swedish” textile unit, a small facility in Scandinavian style. Although for the times an ambitious initiative with the purpose to promote female employment in the village, it dies out after the only 25 years, leaving behind a fully equipped Swedish-style production unit with operational looms.
